Or the corn you eat at barbecues and the potatoes we all know and love. All these foods plus more are linked in a life-threatening way, they?re genetically modified. For starters, genetically modified food is when the genetic material of a food or plant is changed and it can t be replicated by nature itself or by mating. There is evidence that supports the idea of genetically modified food being harmful in the 21st century because there have been lethal side effects from the altered foods, it has impacted the environment in a negative way, and they put a strain on our economy. First of all, genetically modified food has been proven to have lethal side effects. In the book ?GMO Myths Truths? one of the authors states ?There is evidence that Roundup?could lead to serious effects on health over time, such as liver and kidney toxicity?it appears that the levels of exposure currently held as safe by regulators around the world are questionable? (Antoniou, Fagan, Robinson, 2014). In other words, the chemicals making their way into our fresh produce is proven to have severe health impacts on us later on. Roundup is used by farmers extensively to reduce the amount of weeds in their farms. This chemical makes its way into their crops and into our stomachs.
